Constables’ units, police cars, fire trucks, ambulances, and helicopters will descend on Savannah Lakes Elementary school on Saturday, July 14th from 10 am to 2 pm, this is not a drill but will be a first responders fair hosted by Constable James Brawner and the Precinct 4 Constables’ Office.
“I think it’s very important that the citizens in my precinct have the opportunity for them and their children to come out and meet some of the people that provide police, emergency medical, and fire services to them,” said Brawner. Constable Brawner and deputies came up with the idea of hosting a fair in a centralized location for the northern part of his district as a target area.
“I have worked extremely hard with the Lakes of Savannah subdivision to provide the residents with a stepped-up police presence, we have contracted with their homeowner’s associations and municipal utility district to provide what we like to refer as a contract deputy.” Brawner continued to say that so far it has been a successful relationship that he hopes evolves into more. Currently the Constables’ Office works with Savannah to provide a full time and one part-time deputy to patrol the Lakes of Savannah area, “this program is almost like buying a service that you just can’t put a price on, it provides a police presence and a guaranteed visibility that you may not receive if you are just depending on routine patrols, increased visibility and police presence are the number one way to deter criminal activity.” This is only one of the reasons the second year Constable wants to provide these opportunities for his precinct, Brawner said he values interaction with his communities and wants them to be able to pick up the phone to call his office and know who they are speaking with, “I want the people to know that I am responsive and care about where they live, their safety and well-being are in my concerns.”
The Constables’ Office has received confirmation that Alvin ISD Police, Brazoria County Sheriff’s Office, Pearland Fire and EMS, PHI Air Med Helicopters and the Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center will be in attendance, they are still working on the invitation list.
